Aqua Pilates, also known as Water Pilates is another way to perform good old Pilates exercise routines under the relieving power of water, especially beneficial for people with health problems or recovering from an injury.
Water exercises are no new in the fitness scene; they have been for a while diversifying into Water Boxing and Aqua Step, and now in Aqua Pilates.
Why Pilates in the water?
Water inherent qualities make it a special and unique medium to treat muskoloskeletal conditions as osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, muscles strains and tears and many others due to:
- Buoyancy. Water counteracts gravity and helps support your weight, which helps improve balance and strength.
- Viscosity. The gentle friction of water allows strengthening and conditioning an injury, whilst reducing the risk of further injury because of balance loss.
- Hydrostatic pressure. This type of pressure has many benefits that help improve heart and lung function, and muscle blood flow.
