What are the differences between the Pilates method and the traditional gymnastics?

The main similarities there are between Pilates and gymnastics is that both work different muscular groups, but in Pilates lifts and knee protectors are practically unused. However in Pilates it is given more importance to the Powerhouse, while in localized gymnastics all the different muscular groups are taken equally, both upper and lower.

In traditional gymnastics stretching is reduced, while in Pilates it is quite important and takes a main role in class.

And music in the first one is quicker, has a parking beat and so loud that you can barely listen to the instructor. On the other hand, Pilates, as we mentioned before works with a enjoyable and sweet backgorund music that goes along with the soft movements, giving pleasure to the ears and to the performance.
